Partnership Spotlight: DC Central Kitchen

As long as we can remember, Suited for Change has had an integral partnership with DC Central Kitchen’s Culinary Job Training program.

For over 30 years, DCCK’s Culinary Job Training program has provided culinary arts education, career readiness training, and real-world internships for adults who have experienced barriers to employment.

As each DCCK Culinary Job Training cohort prepares for their graduation, one tradition has been for the students to take a field trip over to the SFC boutique and select some new professional attire.

Each and every time the DCCK students walk into the SFC boutique, we know the day is going to be a blast!

Feeding off of each others’ excitement, the room is always filled with “oohs and aahs” as the students walk out of the dressing room in professional suits and admire themselves in the mirror.

This relationship has even been extended to the make-up of our leadership, with DCCK graduate Jamilah Al-Bari now sitting on our Board of Directors.

“I’m inspired by Suited for Change because they have impacted so many local women’s lives in a positive way through their understanding of what’s needed to change lives and get many to the next level on their path to success. I’m proud to be a part of this dynamic organization,” says Jamilah.

Through this long-term partnership, we have seen so many students transform in front of our eyes as they realize their full potential as budding culinary professionals.

We are so grateful to DCCK for their continued partnership and cannot wait to see what we can do together in the future!
