In the News with WJLA

We were so honored to welcome Alison Starling from WJLA-TV to the Suited for Change Boutique earlier this month.

As we prepare to reach our 30th anniversary of serving the women in the District of Columbia, we could not think of a better way to celebrate than by highlighting one of our many success stories, Lakina Edwards.

When Lakina came to Suited for Change for the first time she was just starting to regain her footing after encountering domestic violence, losing her employment, and experiencing homelessness. When describing her first time stepping in the door at SFC, Lakina recalled that

"Suited for Change embraced me despite where I came from and all I had going on...it felt like an open door moving into another chapter."

Now, Lakina’s life has made come full circle, not only does she work for a prestigious PR firm, but she is also a board member here at SFC. We are so proud of what Lakina and so many other clients have been able to accomplish after finding their confidence once again.

As perfectly described by our Executive Director Liz Reinert, when one of our clients puts on a suit and looks in the mirror

“it helps [them] see themselves in a whole new light.”

Thank you so much WJLA for giving our organization the incredible opportunity to spread the word of our vital work to the larger community, especially during these difficult times.
