Postponed for more than a year, due to the pandemic, we were finally able to host our Be Bold for Change event in-person at the Waterfront Church DC for our clients!
Since 2012, the Alliance of Career Development Nonprofits, ACDN, has hosted events across the country in connection with Smart&Sexy, one of the largest privately held lingerie companies, to help women gain the confidence and skills they need for employment.
National Smart & Sexy Day events inspire women through boosting their self-confidence so that they feel assured, confident, and most of all, employable. We at Suited for Change are honored to be a part of ACDN’s annual event to further empower the women in our community.
Our morning began with a continental breakfast from our friends at the Waterfront Church DC and our first workshop session, “Five Things HR Really Wants You to Know,” led by Michelle Brown. Her session delved into how to manage up, set work-life boundaries, and know your rights and responsibilities as an employee.
We continued with Kristina Han from Own Your Wonder and learned about the importance of looking professional and how to leave your best first impression, especially in the world of Zoom interviews.
The final workshop session of the day was led by Leslie Jefferson from our partners at Giant. Focusing on the importance of a balanced diet while still shopping smart, Leslie gave our clients helpful guidelines from taking inventory of your kitchen before shopping and planning meals, all the way to utilizing loyalty programs and expanding your palate.
The event concluded with a catered lunch from our partners at Giant, bra fittings courtesy of Smart&Sexy, and goodie bags full of makeup for every client! Even under their masks, we could still see the joy in our clients’ faces as they eagerly participated in each session.
As said by Renee, one of the participants,
“I learned a lot, met a few wonderful women, and overall had a great time. Thanks to SFC for bringing the light to women looking for employment and looking great for interviewing in the process.”
We cannot wait to host more events like this, and continue to share our vital services with the women in our community.
Thanks again to the Waterfront Church DC, Giant, Own Your Wonder, ACDN, Smart&Sexy, Michelle Brown, and all of our incredible volunteers for making this event possible!
